A New Annual Tradition at Kit&Caboodle?
The Hello Autumn Fair
So… there are some ideas that start as a little thought in your head and slowly grow into something you can almost see, hear and feel.
For me, the Hello Autumn Fair is one of those ideas.
I wanted to create something that brings people together, whether that's creatively, or simply by giving people a place to hang out with like minded people.
We live in a time when technology is constantly showing us what everyone else is thinking, creating and doing. An idea can pop into our heads, only for us to see something similar online moments later and think, “Oh, someone has already done that.” And just like that, we move on from an idea that might have been worth exploring.
We discover businesses online, follow artists on social media and order things with the click of a button. Everything is right there at our fingertips. But sometimes, in all that convenience, we forget the magic of stepping away from the screen and actually meeting the people behind the business, behind the things we love, admire and buy.
That's something I want to bring back, even if just for one special day a year.
I want visitors to walk around, stop at a stall, have a conversation, discover someone's talent and perhaps go home with something that has a story behind it.
Perhaps that will unleash your own creativity, who knows???
One of the things I love most is seeing what people can create when they are given the time and opportunity.
There are so many talented people around us making beautiful, useful and completely unique things. Sometimes they simply need a little space, encouragement and an audience.
That's why workshops and live demos are such an important part of the idea too and glimpse of what we do at Kit&Caboodle.
I want people to be able to talk, watch and learn or even have a go yourself. Whether it's discovering an item and giving it a new lease of life, making something, painting, upcycling or discovering a new craft whilst having a chat to the girls in the store.
Reusing, repurposing and giving things another life...
That's what we are all about.
For me, sustainability doesn't have to be complicated or perfect.
I want the fair to encourage a new way of thinking, to celebrate creativity that doesn't always begin with buying something new.
I don't want the Hello Autumn Fair to feel like just another fair or market.
I want it to become a NEW ANNUAL TRADITION!
A date people look forward to every year.
A place where local artisans can showcase what they do, where families and friends can spend time together, where we can enjoy good food, live music and workshops, and where there is always something unexpected around the corner.
And, of course, there has to be a little bit of fun too!
That's why we're adding live drink making, live BBQ cooking, workshops, handmade gifts… the lot!
AND, the best part, we're having a FLASH SALE in store for that day only!
So yes, there will be plenty to discover, make, eat, watch and take home with you.
Why autumn?
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. It has always felt like a season of change to me.
It's a time when we get to slow down a little after a busy summer, gather together and enjoy that cosy feeling. I think it's the perfect moment to celebrate everything that has been created throughout the year.
And perhaps that's what I want this fair to represent too.
Slow down. Gather your thoughts and inspirations. Unleash your creativity and make it happen.
My dream is that this first Hello Autumn Fair becomes the beginning of something much bigger.
More second-hand buying.
More workshops.
More brainstorming.
More people getting involved.
More creative ways of reusing and repurposing.
More conversations.
More laughter.
And, most importantly, being present.
I don't know yet what this fair will become, and maybe that's part of the excitement.
But one thing I do know… I'm down for it!
